ABOUT THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF TAMPA BAY

Our Mission

It is the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

Our History

imagesCA0C3OTKFor over 85 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay has been in the forefront of youth development, in Hillsborough and Pasco Counties, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances.  The Boys & Girls Clubs have actively sought to enrich the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies have had difficulty in reaching.  We are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will impact their lives and shape their futures.

From games and athletics to drug prevention workshops, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay offers young people a range of fun and productive activities.  Clubs are open each day after school from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. – when research has shown children to be the most vulnerable to gangs, violence and other risky behavior.  In the summer, Clubs open their doors all day to young people with nowhere else to go.

Since 1926, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay have provided children with a positive place to go,
results-oriented programming and a professional staff to guide them.  Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs serve more than 9,000 young people through its Clubs, summer sessions and outreach programs.  Our Club sites in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties are located in communities with the greatest need where similar services are limited or nonexistent.

The results of these services and programs are remarkable – children excel in school and personally, because of the stability, personal attention and special programs the Clubs provide.  Last year, because of our programmatic efforts, 88% of participating members showed improvements in academic and social competencies, 89% showed improved behavior both at the Club and at school; and 93% of parents stated that the Boys & Girls Clubs has a measurable positive impact on their children.
