CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SPORTS PROGRAM

Champions League Sports activities provide children and individuals ages 5-20 with special needs, an opportunity to participate in team-based community recreational activities that are otherwise impossible to participate in due to lack of accommodations. During Champions League Sports activities, children are paired up with "Buddys" (volunteers) who help them participate safely at whatever level that child needs. For each Champions League Sports activity, consideration is made to accommodate physical, cognitive, and communication disorders. No child will be turned away based on their individual limitations. Champions League Sports provide an opportunity for children to improve their self-esteem, coordination, and their ability to cooperate and communicate through interactions with other children, their Buddys, and their coaches. Our goal is that children of all abilities have the opportunity to form long lasting relationships outside of their school and home life, and have meaningful experiences that enrich their lives.

Basketball

Champions League Basketball will allow children with special needs to participate in adaptive basketball games as part of a team. Since basketball is a very dynamic sport, this league will be divided up based on the type of assistance children need, in order to provide the safest environment possible for all participants. Children participating in the basketball league will have opportunities to improve their self-esteem, coordination, turn-taking abilities, communication, as well as strength and endurance. Accommodations will be made for any physical and communication needs as necessary. Uniforms will be provided.

Cheer

The Champions League Cheerleading team will cheer on the basketball teams at the sidelines during their weekly games. Children participating on the cheerleading team will have opportunities for socialization, verbal skills, coordination, self-esteem, and teamwork. They will learn simple chants, rhythmic movements, and simple stunts as appropriate depending on each child's abilities. Accommodations will be made for any physical and communication needs as necessary. Uniforms and pom-poms will be provided.
