KEVIN BRACKETT
16TH CIRCUIT SOLICITOR
2014 DASHAWAY AWARD RECIPIENT

Our 2014 Dashaway Award Recipient is Kevin Brackett. Kevin is the Solicitor for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit which is comprised of York and Union counties.  He has been a prosecutor in the office since becoming a lawyer in 1991 and was appointed by the Governor to assume the duties of the Solicitor upon the retirement of former Solicitor Tommy Pope in November of 2006.  In 2008 and again in 2012 Kevin was elected to full four-year terms.

Prior to that he was chief deputy solicitor and together with Tommy made the 16th Circuit the statewide leader in efficient and effective prosecution.  This was accomplished by constantly innovating and improving the court systems and docketing procedures.  In 2003 Kevin implemented the first “paperless” filing system in any prosecutor’s office in South Carolina.

Kevin feels that the most important work done by his office is in the arena of juvenile justice.  He is firmly committed to doing everything he can to prevent todays juvenile offenders from becoming tomorrow’s adult, career criminals. During his career Kevin was recognized as the South Carolina Prosecutor of the Year in 1998, lectured nationally to numerous prosecutors groups on case management and the use of technology to enhance efficiency. Kevin lives in Fort Mill with his wife Susan and their daughter.

DYNASTI NEELY
2014 YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to our 2014 Youth of the Year winner, Dynasti Neely! Dynasti was awarded this coveted title at our 22nd Annual Stakeholders’ Celebration on February 27th in front of 200 guests. The Youth of the Year award is the highest honor bestowed upon Boys & Girls Club members. She has been a member of our Teen Center for two years and is a senior at Northwestern High School. Dynasti has been accepted to several universities including Clemson and Brenau and plans to study science. Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. The program is most effective when used as a year-round tool for fostering young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities. Dynasti is a true example of what it means to be a Boys & Girls Club member demonstrating strong academic success, moral character and healthy lifestyles and we could not be more proud to have her represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of York County at the state Youth of the Year competition.
