My daughter and I came in here and we saw so many kids.  Kids were on computers, they were in dance classes, they were having fun.  I’m on food stamps and cash aid right now, my kids don’t know it, times are really tough.  Through donations, I’m able to pay a small amount and my daughter can come to the Boys & Girls Club.  She is right now a straight A student, she’s a happy kid and there is nothing more that she loves than the Boys & Girls Club being here for her.

One of the teachers over at Cypress Elementary told me about the Boys & Girls Club and when I checked into it I was very, very excited about what I found.  I enjoyed looking at the curriculum.  It was very exciting to see the different programs and activities that they actually got into.  The best part was Krishna began enjoying himself.  He started making friends and became so much more social, it was just amazing.

It’s been a godsend for my husband and myself…The Boys & Girls Club was like an anchor for my kids.  It was a place for them to go make new friends, helped my daughter to get to know some of the kids at Los Cerritos so she could start off her 7th grade with some confidence knowing she knew some kids.  Knowing that we have a place in the neighborhood that we can feel safe and put our kids there and feel good about it…it means the world to us.

After School is a very, very tough time when you’re 9, 10 years old and you have nowhere else to go the Boys & Girls Club was the place I went.  It was my home.  Took the bus there, you know half hour each day, made friends, enjoyed playing basketball and ping pong…

I think it did great for me.  I benefitted from it personally.  Got me involved in athletics, which carried on into high school and college.  For me, the Boys & Girls Club coming into my life taught me discipline to follow through with something that you start.
