2013-2014 Partnership Campaign

For 75 years, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach have been a safe haven for kids who otherwise have nowhere else to go--a place to do homework, explore talents in art in music, play sports and participate in activities that teach leadership, character and healthy lifestyle choices.

While the actual cost of one year of programming is about $600 per child, we keep membership dues low - just $15 for an entire school-year. If a family can't afford these nominal fees, we waive them. No child is ever turned away.

With your support, we will continue to provide hope and opportunity to those who need us most--kids that face tremendous obstacles. Consider the facts:

Long Beach ranks as one of the top 10 impoverished cities in the U.S. - 83% of our members are categorized as "low income"

Every day in Long Beach, an estimated 13 children are arrested or ticketed for breaking the law. That's about 91 a week, 394 a month and an astonishing 4,732 a year

The teen pregnancy rate in Long Beach is 41%

Gang membership in Long Beach is estimated at 6,000

The dropout rate among minority teens hovers around 30%

62% of adults in our service areas dropped out of high school (52% of them before completing the eighth grade)

According to a study conducted for the 28 Clubs in Los Angeles County, Club membership leads to:

Improved graduation rates, resulting in a lifetime earnings increase of $185 million

Reduced teen pregnancy, with a 3/1,000 Club member pregnancy rate compared with 400/1,000 in the general population

Improved parental employment--78% of our parents said the Clubs helped them keep their jobs, resulting in $492.2 million in additional earnings

Healthy Lifestyles--78% of members said Club activities helped them become more physically fit, leading to healthcare cost savings
