Junior Counselor in Training Program & Counselor In Training Program
Qualifications: Must be 12 years of age by June 1, 2013, interested in helping other young people to learn and grow. All Jr. CIT’s applicants should be interested in, working with children, possess maturity, flexibility, a strong work ethic and the ability to have fun. Must be a Boys & Girls Club member ($40/yr).
Specific Duties:
- Aid counselors by helping to get equipment and supplies ready for activities
- Help to secure supplies and equipment after activities
- Aid children in their learning and providing a good example
- Help counselors and children by helping to keep track of their stuff
- Help children to get to activity areas and the bathroom
- Contribute ideas to improve the program
- Report any unsafe actions by children.
- Provide children with role models and help them grow in character
- Assist in cleaning and disposing of trash
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance
- Good character, integrity and adaptability
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
- Set a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, appropriateness, punctuality, sharing duties during cleanup, and sportsmanship
- Respect each camper for their uniqueness – within each group help create a community of people, understanding and appreciating diversity, emphasizing communication and team work.
Overview: The Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley’s Jr. Counselor in Training (Jr. CIT) program is designed for those campers who turn 12 by June, 2013, and are interested in becoming leaders. This program teaches leadership, conflict resolution, child development, and group dynamics that lead to make a successful Boys & Girls of Assabet Valley employee and improves leadership skills. Successful completion of this program and positive evaluation could lead to an invitation the following season as an intern or potentially a paid staff member. Because of the small number of spaces available and the highly competitive nature of this program, all potential applicants must complete the following application and parental consent form in order to determine suitability for the program. Applications will be reviewed and an interview scheduled to determine feasibility of a Jr. CIT position.
This program covers a curriculum that includes such topics as leadership, conflict resolution, child development and group dynamics that leads to the making of a successful Boys & Girls Club Counselor, and a better leader. All CIT’s applicants should be interested in, working with children, possess maturity, flexibility, a strong work ethic and the ability to have fun. CITs will be evaluated by the Club Staff at the end of their session. Successful completion of the program and positive evaluations could lead to the participant being invited back the following season to interview for a staff position (must be going into 10th grade to be considered.)
