“I was arrested at the end of eighth grade. Basically, I was a victim of bullying which led me to make some poor choices. The Juvenile Justice Program ordered me to do volunteer work, which I thought would be an uninspiring, monotonous experience. The minute I walked into the Boys & Girls Clubhouse, I could feel something was different. The Club became my second home, and the experience has really shaped who I am today. Four years ago, I was an isolated kid with no moral compass, headed down a risky path. The Boys & Girls Club brought me out of my shell and saw my potential. I was given the opportunity to grow and become a leader. The Club had faith in me when nobody else did; they saw my potential. I hope to have the same influence on others that the Club has had on me."

Even though our membership fees are extremely low - only $50 per year - we gave almost $500,000 in scholarships last year. No child is ever turned away due to inability to pay. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad is nearly 100% funded by local donors.
