MEET LUCY
![]() |
Lucy has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area since the day she turned 6 years old. Now at age 12, our Club has been able to watch Lucy grow up and flourish into a brilliant young lady. As part of the selection process for becoming a Kid Kaptain, Lucy was asked to write and essay about what the Boys & Girls Club meant to her. In that essay, Lucy states that the Club made a HUGE difference in her life and the staff has taught her |

many life-changing lessons. She gives credit to the staff for helping her build confidence in her basketball skills and has taught her "never to settle for less then a quality education." Lucy looks forward to coming to the Boys & Girls Club every day. She says that 5 minutes before school lets out, she gets excited about the day ahead of her at the Club. Lucy states, "I love going to the Boys & Girls Club because of friends, activities, and especially seeing all the Staff." Lucy takes pride in her membership at the Club. She has been a participant in Jr. Staff, Torch Club, Smart Moves, Ultimate Journey, Dance Troupe, Cooking Class, Smart Girls, Go Girls! Go!, and is currently in Be Great: Graduate. The Clubs programs have helped in the development of Lucy by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, influence and belonging. Lucy's self-esteem has been enhanced and an environment has been created which helps Lucy achieve her full potential.
EXCERPT FROM LUCY'S ESSAY:
"I have been going to the Club since I was 6. The most important thing about coming to the Club is the memories and the time I have spent there. The Boys & Girls Club is like a second home to me because I depend on it to keep me safe and to comfort me. There has been staff that have come and gone, but there is a place for all of them inside my heart. I will bring my kids here one day, and they will enjoy it like I do. The Boys & Girls Club is the most important thing in my life."
