Jeremy has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area for almost 6 years. Jeremy is an active member who currently participates in our SMART MOVES program, Buzzer Beaters, enjoys the computer lab and is currently playing in our 2010 Indoor Soccer league. Jeremy also loves to help out the Staff whenever they need him.

Jeremy is one of the members who need us most.  He currently lives in one of the worst neighborhoods that San Clemente has to offer.  He lives on a street where their home is being constantly vandalized.  He lives in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with his mother, sister and 7 nieces and nephews that his mom took in and who are his same age or younger.  Jeremy looks to the Club as a place to escape his crowded home and where he can just be himself.  At home, Jeremy would constantly get cornered in alleys where older kids would threaten him and attempt to steal his bicycle and other personal belongings.  His mother believes that if it were not for the Club, Jeremy would focus his energy on trying to get even.  The Boys & Girls Club has taught Jeremy to turn the other cheek and forgive the kids who harass him.

Jeremy grew up in a violent and abusive household where his father would abuse him both physically and mentally.  Through his mother’s strength and determination, she was able to leave that situation, but not before Jeremy became depressed and suffered from Post Dramatic Stress Disorder.  Debbi McKee, Jeremy's mother, believes that the Boys & Girls Club is a place that nurtures good behavior, encourages sportsmanship and teaches right from wrong.  She stated that her son has learned to soar with the eagles rather then fly with the pigeons.  "I think the Boys & Girls Club is a very good place...a safe place," Debbi said.  "The Club gives me confidence as a parent and a sense of peace knowing that my son has a place where he can go and be accepted."

At the Club, Jeremy has found love, support, acceptance and a freedom to be who he wants to be.  When Jeremy arrived at our Club, he was a very timid and scared young boy.  Jeremy would not allow people to touch him or to carry on a conversation with him.  He was an angry boy and found it almost impossible to express himself and to share his feelings.  The Boys & Girls Club staff has now given him an element of trust and has helped him to be confident in himself.  He has realized that his life is meaningful and that it is ok to allow people to like him.  Jeremy has learned to care about others and their feelings.  Today, Jeremy has flourished into one of our Clubs greatest success stories.  He defines the phrase BE GREAT and thanks to the Boys & Girls Club...he has found a sense of peace in his life
