Ily has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area for over 2 years. Ily is an active member who currently participates in our SMART MOVES program, Jr. Staff and Go Girls! Go! Ily also plays in our basketball and volleyball leagues. Ily's mom considers the Boys & Girls Club a safe place to go and a secure environment for her children. She believes that the diversity of the Club's members allows Ily to learn about other ethnicities and how not to judge other people. |

"For Ily, the Club has given her the opportunity to be a part of a fun and safe environment which has helped her self-esteem and creativity." The Boys & Girls Club fulfills the need of after school enrichment for all 3 of the Macpherson kids. Both parents work and with 3 kids, daycare can be expensive. At only $30 per year for each child, the Macpherson’s are able to provide affordable after school enrichment for their children. "The amount of activities is unheard of in other after school environments," stated Heidi Macpherson, "and the staff at the Club provides such positive mentorship to all 3 of my kids." Ily's mom appreciates how the staff at the Club spends quality time with her kids by playing cards, chess, foosball and other activities that promote life lessons. "As a parent, we try to spend quality time with our kids," Heidi stated, "but at the Club Ily gets that important interaction with adults." To Ily, the Club has given her a place to build relationships and friendships. It has given her confidence, maturity and a sense of security and familiarity of her community. Ily's mother stated that she can credit the Club for teaching Ily about respect and how to be a mature leader rather than a follower. She has become more outgoing and the Boys & Girls Club has helped build her self-esteem while giving her a solid foundation as a child. "Ily is more relaxed when she is at the Club," said Heidi, "it is a place where Ily enjoys being a kid." |
